What is the reason for all this deception? Pure and simple, it is evil greed and jealousy. Iago is jealous of Michael Cassio's position with Othello. He feels the position should be his and will stop at nothing to accomplish it. He is also jealous of the friendship between the two men, although he claims (to Roderigo) to hate Othello. Iago is also jealous of the love bond between Othello and Desdemona. It is not clear if Iago is in love with Desdemona but ....
